FCT Police arrest notorious armed robbery: On April 4, 2024, authorities from the FCT police command successfully apprehended Chukwuemeka Oputa, alias “Pounds and Dollar,” aged 38, hailing from Umuaka, Njaba, Imo State. Oputa is identified as the ringleader of an armed robbery syndicate responsible for a spate of violent crimes in the Federal Capital Territory.
The arrest of Oputa followed the capture of Moses Hassan, a cultist from Idda, Kogi State, and a member of the same criminal gang, on February 14, 2024. Subsequent investigations by law enforcement led to the apprehension of three additional gang members: Praise Etta (30 years old, from Etung, Cross River State), Rafael Dav, also known as “Raffy” (28 years old, from Guma, Benue State), and Thomas Akange (38 years old, from Markudi, Benue State). All suspects have confessed to their involvement in a string of armed robberies and other serious offenses within the FCT. They have also admitted affiliation with a cult group known as the Vikings.
During the arrests, authorities seized a significant cache of weaponry, including four locally manufactured AK47 rifles, three improvised rifles using cartridges, an English pistol, a locally crafted pistol, a Dane gun, and various ammunition types. Efforts are currently underway to recover additional illicit items in the possession of the suspects.
