Senator Peter Onyekachi Nwebonyi, the Deputy Chief Whip of the 10th Nigerian Senate representing Ebonyi North Senatorial District, has voiced his support for the proposed State Police.
In an interview with AIT’s program “Inside Parliament” shortly after plenary on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, Senator Nwebonyi, who is also a member of the Senate Constitution Review Committee, emphasized the necessity of state police to address the security challenges facing the nation. He highlighted that these challenges have overwhelmed the federal police.
Additionally, Senator Nwebonyi expressed his opposition to the proposed increase in electricity tariffs, stating that it would be insensitive to consider such an increase given the economic hardship faced by Nigerians.
As a representative at the ECOWAS parliament, Senator Nwebonyi urged Nigerians to have faith in the leadership of President Tinubu, asserting that the economic policies implemented by his administration would yield positive results for all citizens.
Furthermore, Senator Nwebonyi emphasized the importance of the ongoing constitutional amendment, stating that it would address governance loopholes, especially since the constitution was initially crafted during military rule.
Regarding the 2024 budget, Senator Nwebonyi assured Nigerians that they could expect positive outcomes, indicating that the budget’s benefits would soon be felt across the nation in alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda
