Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has announced a salary increase of N10,000 for civil servants in the state, pending the ongoing negotiations between labor unions and the federal government regarding the new minimum wage.
Nwifuru made this announcement during this year’s Workers’ Day celebration at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium in Abakaliki on Wednesday.
He assured that the current practice of regular promotions and timely payment of salaries, pensions, and gratuities will be upheld.
Addressing the crowd, Nwifuru stated, “Esteemed ladies and gentlemen, we eagerly anticipate the outcome of the minimum wage negotiation and want to assure you, esteemed workers of our esteemed state, that Ebonyi will not lag behind. I have instructed that all promotion arrears be settled immediately. I am pleased with your dedication, which is a source of joy and a personal challenge to me as your governor. In response to the issues raised by the NLC and TUC, I am pleased to announce an additional award of ten thousand naira, doubling the initial raise to N20,000.”
He commended the workers for their bravery, determination, resilience, and productivity.
Nwifuru continued, “As I mentioned last year, your remarkable sacrifices and commitment to our esteemed state reflect your numerous contributions to its growth and development. Despite the economic challenges facing our beloved country, Nigeria, you consistently demonstrate extraordinary patriotism for the collective good of our nation.
“I applaud your bravery, determination, resilience, and productivity. In celebrating you today, it is crucial to reaffirm the commitments outlined in our manifesto, the People’s Charter of Needs.”
