Lagos Starts Dismantling Of Structures. The Lagos State Government, under the Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources, has commenced the removal of non-compliant structures along the System 1 drainage channel at Odo Iya Alaro in Ojota and Ogudu.
This removal action, which began on Monday, comes after multiple contravention notices were issued to property owners, and their expiration. The operation is being carried out by operatives of the Drainage Enforcement and Compliance (DEC), supported by security personnel from the Task Force on Special Offences and other relevant agencies.
The ministry has engaged in consultative stakeholder meetings, including sessions with members of the legislative Assembly. One such meeting, chaired by HC MOE&WR Tokunbo Wahab, and attended by Honorable Sanni Okanlawon, the House of Assembly member representing Kosofe 1, took place on December 21 last year. Despite these efforts, none of the property owners could provide evidence of ownership titles for the structures built within the drainage right of way.
