During a press conference following the premiere of “The Substance,” Moore said that stripping down for the role required a great deal of vulnerability and rawness, which she felt was essential to convey the story effectively.
She expressed gratitude to her co-star, Margaret Qualley, for easing her nerves and being an incredible scene partner during their nude scenes.
Moore acknowledged that the movie pushed her out of her comfort zone but emphasized that the explicit scenes were crucial. She praised director Coralie Fargeat for handling the scenes with sensitivity and fostering a sense of mutual trust.
“The Substance” addresses themes such as beauty standards, toxic masculinity, and female self-hatred, with Moore playing Elisabeth Sparkle, a fading celebrity obsessed with youth who turns to a black market drug.
