NAFDAC, the National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control, has taken action against substandard bakeries and a sachet water factory in Port Harcourt. According to a statement released on Tuesday by Cyril Monye, the South South Zonal Public Relations Officer, the bakeries were found operating in makeshift wooden structures under unhygienic conditions in Rumuparali and Mgbuoba areas of Obio/Akpor local government area. These facilities were neither registered nor compliant with safety regulations.
Emmanuel Onogwu, the NAFDAC Coordinator for Rivers State, led the operation, which was prompted by tips from concerned citizens and thorough investigations by the agency’s enforcement unit. Additionally, a sachet water factory on Mgbuoba-Choba Road, Obio/Akpor LGA, was shut down for non-compliance with standard best practices.
The statement emphasized NAFDAC’s commitment to safeguarding public health and urged the public to provide relevant information that could aid in identifying and apprehending unregistered producers of NAFDAC-regulated products.
