The All Progressives Congress leadership assured Nigerian workers on Wednesday of President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to enhancing their living standards.
This affirmation was conveyed in a solidarity message issued in Abuja by the APC’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka.
The reassurance followed shortly after the president’s promise of improved working conditions and equitable wages for Nigerian workers, as articulated in his inaugural May Day address dedicated to workers nationwide.
Morka emphasized that the APC government’s initiatives, including wage hikes and comprehensive economic policies, aim to benefit workers and all Nigerians.
In a statement, Morka said, “We commend the resilience, sacrifice, diligence, and patriotism of Nigerian workers and honor their invaluable role in fostering and sustaining our nation’s economic vitality. Nigerian workers merit the highest quality of life that our nation can provide, thereby securing our collective vision for comprehensive and sustainable economic progress and transformation.”
“With great pleasure, the President Bola Tinubu-led administration remains steadfast in its commitment to enhancing the well-being of Nigerian workers. In addition to removing the Academic Staff Union of Universities from the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System and granting wage increases for several months, negotiations are actively underway to establish a new minimum wage for Nigerian workers.
“The administration’s comprehensive economic policies aim to broaden economic opportunities and advantages for workers and all Nigerians. As we commemorate this occasion, we urge our workers to stand firm and continue to support and collaborate with the APC-led administration as it strives to build a stronger and more prosperous nation for current and future generations of Nigerians.”
Nigeria joins 160 other nations in celebrating International Workers’ Day, also known as Labour Day. It is a day dedicated to honoring the achievements and contributions of workers to society on an annual basis.
In 1981, the Federal Government, under Shehu Shagari, officially designated May 1 as a national public holiday to honor its workers.
