The National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Felix Morka, emphasized the distinction between the current situation involving their National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, and the political turbulence that led to the removal of the Adams Oshiomhole-led National Working Committee from the party secretariat.
Morka made this clarification while addressing inquiries regarding Ganduje’s suspension on Arise TV on Thursday.
He pointed out that Oshiomhole and members of the then NWC were elected for a four-year term (2018-2022) at a national convention in Abuja. However, the leadership was dissolved two years into their tenure, allegedly to derail the presidential ambition of Bola Tinubu.
In March 2020, a Federal High Court in the Federal Capital Territory ordered Oshiomhole to step aside following an interlocutory injunction seeking his removal as APC national chairman. The court ruled that Oshiomhole should remain suspended pending the determination of the suit, criticizing the party for keeping him in office after his state APC chapter suspended him in November 2019.
Addressing concerns that Ganduje might face a similar fate, Morka stressed that the situations were different. He highlighted that unlike the circumstances surrounding Oshiomhole’s suspension, those advocating for Ganduje’s suspension were not recognized members of the party.
Morka stated, “The difference here is that we have pure impostors announcing the suspension of our national chairman and they had gone to court to attempt to affirm that same illegal and criminal act. So I just want to make sure that that is clear that these individuals are not authorized and not acting on behalf of the ward. They need to stop because when the dust settles, there will be consequences for this sort of behavior.”
