Senegal has intercepted nearly 1,140 kilograms of cocaine, estimated to be worth $146 million, in a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking. Customs officials made the remarkable discovery of the massive haul hidden within packets concealed in bags on a lorry in Kidira, near the Mali border.
This seizure, weighing over a tonne, marks the largest inland confiscation of cocaine in Senegal’s history. It underscores the authorities’ growing success in combating drug trafficking within the country.
This recent achievement follows a trend of heightened drug interceptions in Senegal. Just last November, the Senegalese navy seized an astounding three tonnes of cocaine from a ship off the coast. These incidents highlight the escalating efforts of authorities to disrupt the flow of narcotics through Senegal, a crucial transit point for Latin American drug cartels trafficking illicit substances to Europe and other regions.
