The New Nigeria Peoples Party faction, led by Major Agbo, has announced the suspension of Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, for a period of six months. This action was taken due to his failure to appear before a disciplinary committee to address alleged infractions against the party’s constitution.
The suspension was declared by the faction’s National Secretary, Ogini Olaposi, during a press conference held in Abuja on Tuesday. Olaposi explained that the decision was made by the Board of Trustees in the party’s best interest.
He expressed concern over Governor Yusuf’s participation in an “illegal national convention” organized by the Kwankwasiya group led by Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso on April 6. Olaposi emphasized the need to uphold the party’s internal disciplinary measures and democratic principles, citing party supremacy as paramount.
In accordance with the NNPP Constitution 2022 as amended, and with the approval of the Board of Trustees and the National Working Committee, Governor Abba Yusuf has been suspended for six months effective immediately.
In response, the National Secretary of the Kwankwasiyya faction of NNPP, Dipo Olayoku, dismissed the purported suspension as a farce orchestrated by individuals expelled from the party. He argued that those behind the suspension lacked legitimacy as they had been previously expelled and were not recognized as party members by INEC. Olayoku described the suspension as a mere spectacle orchestrated by individuals lacking credibility.
