Naira abuse: On Wednesday, April 17, 2024, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign Pascal Okechukwu, widely known as Cubana Chief Priest, before the Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged abuse of the naira.
Cubana Chief Priest will appear before Justice Kehinde Ogundare on three counts of purportedly spraying and tampering with naira notes at a social gathering, which contravenes the Central Bank Act of 2007.
According to the charge filed on April 4 by the EFCC’s prosecutor, Rotimi Oyedepo, along with seven other lawyers representing the chairman of the anti-graft commission, Okechukwu Pascal is accused of tampering with N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria during a social event at Eko Hotel on February 13, 2024. This act is alleged to be in violation of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
Count 2 alleges a similar offense in Lagos during a social event in 2020, while Count 3 accuses Okechukwu Pascal of the same act in January 2024. Both counts also reference violations of Section 21(1) of the Central Bank Act 2007.
It’s noteworthy that on April 5, the EFCC obtained the conviction of popular cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, also known as Bobrisky, on similar charges, resulting in a six-month prison sentence.
