Junior Pope: The Delta State Government has instituted a ban on water travel without the mandatory use of life jackets and other safety measures.
This directive was communicated through a condolence message by the state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Nnamdi Ijeh, to the families affected by the recent tragic boat mishap on the River Niger, which resulted in the loss of lives including that of Nollywood actor, Junior Pope.
Dr. Ijeh’s message, dated April 11, 2024, expressed the sympathies of the state government and the creative community in Delta State towards the unfortunate incident that occurred on April 10, 2024.
“On behalf of the State Government, Ministry of Culture and Tourism, and the entire creative community in the state, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the families of those who lost their lives while expressing their creative talents during their journey from a movie shooting location,” Dr. Ijeh stated.
He emphasized the importance of safety precautions, noting that those who survived the boat accident were found to be wearing life jackets. Dr. Ijeh urged that such tragedies should prompt strict adherence to safety protocols, including the use of life jackets, expert divers, and other necessary precautions for future journeys on waterways
