Michael Chidozie, a 26-year-old US-based Nigerian bodybuilder, has tragically passed away 18 days after sustaining multiple gunshot wounds from his wife, Keaiirra Shavoiyae, during an argument on March 21.
Despite being placed on life support, Chidozie succumbed to complications arising from a severe spinal injury and passed away on April 8, as reported by Daily Mail.
Chidozie was reportedly shot four times by his wife during the heated argument inside their Houston apartment, witnessed by their young children.
Upon discovery by police, Chidozie was rushed to Ben Taub Hospital with gunshot wounds, while his wife was found holding their two children in a state of panic.
According to court documents cited by Daily Mail and ABC13, Chidozie sustained two gunshot wounds to the torso, one to the arm, and one to the chest.
Keaiirra, aged 28, was initially charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following the shooting, and as of Chidozie’s death, no additional charges have been filed against her.
Investigators reported that Keaiirra claimed self-defense, asserting that she feared for her life during the argument when Chidozie followed her into their bedroom, prompting her to retrieve a pistol and shoot him.
Following her release on bail, Keaiirra is scheduled to appear in court on May 23, according to ABC13.
Meanwhile, Chidozie’s family is endeavoring to raise $70,000 to repatriate his body to Nigeria for burial. A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with the expenses.
This tragic incident echoes the unfortunate death of Osazuwa Agbonayinma, known as Zuwa, an American-based Nigerian singer who was shot dead in the US, as previously reported by PUNCH Online in January.
