The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecasted dry, sunny conditions in the northern region and thunderstorms in the south on Monday.
As the day begins, NiMet’s report indicates ongoing dry and sunny weather in the northern parts of Nigeria. However, patches of clouds are expected to cover central cities extending down to the southern region.
The report mentions, “We equally have the prospect of morning thunderstorms in two parts of the FCT, Nassarawa, Kogi, Kwara, Ekiti, Oyo, Ogun, and Lagos state.”
“In the afternoon, we anticipate increasing activity, with thunderstorms expected to develop across the southern region.”
NiMet also warns about the air quality, stating, “Due to the dryness over the north, the air quality is still unhealthy across the region and moderate in the central and southern regions.”
NiMet advises the public to take precautions, especially in regions where strong winds may precede thunderstorms. Staying hydrated is essential during such weather conditions, and NiMet recommends consuming plenty of water.
Airline operators are urged to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning in their operations.
Previously, NiMet predicted sunshine and thunderstorms from Thursday to Saturday across the country. The weather outlook released on Wednesday in Abuja forecasted sunny skies with few clouds over the northern region, with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of Taraba during the afternoon and evening hours. In the North Central region, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine were expected, with prospects of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Kogi, and Benue.
