The University of Calabar (UNICAL) has confirmed the release of three students who were abducted approximately three weeks ago. According to a statement by the school’s Public Relations Officer, Effiong Eyo, the students have been safely reunited with their families.
Eyo expressed gratitude to the security agencies in the state for their collaborative efforts, which ultimately led to the students’ freedom. The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Florence Obi, personally received the students in her office and extended her appreciation to both the security agencies and the parents of the students for their unwavering support during the challenging period.
In light of this incident, Prof. Obi advised students to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the school security personnel promptly.
The abducted students, identified as Ojang Precious Ebejin, a 200-level student of the Department of Medicine and Surgery; Ugwu Chukwuemeka, a 300-level student of the Department of Genetics and Biotechnology; and Damilola Dickson, a final-year student of the same department, were taken from their hostels by unknown criminals.
