Anambra cult clash. On Friday, an unidentified individual was fatally shot near UNIZIK Junction in Awka, Anambra State, allegedly by members of a rival cult group. The victim was reportedly accosted by the suspected cultists while riding in a yellow tricycle, before being shot dead.
The ongoing violence in Awka, marked by clashes between rival cult factions, has resulted in numerous fatalities. The incident on Friday adds to a growing tally of over 12 killings linked to suspected cult clashes since Easter Sunday.
According to a witness in the area who preferred anonymity for security reasons, the victim was identified as a manager of Anambra Executive Transport Company. He was shot three times before the assailants fled the scene in their tricycle.
In light of the escalating violence, some residents have called for the installation of CCTV cameras at strategic locations in Awka. Consequently, many streets have begun locking their gates in the afternoon and displaying signs prohibiting entry for tricycles, as a precautionary measure.
