Some students from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, (UNIZIK students) Awka, Anambra State, are rallying for contributions towards the ransom demanded for their fellow student, Miss Francisca Chioma, who was reportedly abducted while en route to a burial ceremony.
Chioma, a student of the Science Education Department at the university, has been missing since Friday, April 5, after departing Awka to attend a friend’s father’s burial in a community within Anambra State.
Efforts to contact her via phone have been unsuccessful, causing concern among her peers, friends, and family members.
Confirming the situation, the institution’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, stated that relevant security agencies have been informed of the incident, with the assailants already making contact with the family.
Chukwurah emphasized that the incident did not occur on campus, clarifying the situation. He mentioned that the security agencies were engaged and that negotiations regarding ransom were ongoing.
Initially demanding N10 million, the kidnappers later reduced their demand to N2 million, setting a deadline for payment by Tuesday.
In response, Chioma’s classmates and friends have launched a public appeal for donations to meet the ransom, as the family struggles to raise the required funds.
A social media post by Collins C. highlighted the urgency of the situation, urging support and prayers for Chioma’s safety and release.
Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, urged anyone with information to come forward to aid the investigation into the abduction.
